Government as our New Business Partner

You need 3 things for a Free Enterprise System

1. Rule of Law

2. Trust

3. Prices

Rule of Law is what has made our country so great in the free enterprise system. We had the Legal structure that provided a great foundation to do business. Now we have too much regulations and government interference. We have the government in health care, autos, banking, etc. This is taking away a lot of trust in our new business partner, the government.

Will We Get Right This Time?

We have a lot of change coming next week in the US. I see 3 trends in particular that will have a big impact.

1. Economic – We are in the middle of biggest recession since WWII. Current Policy makers have no impact. Yet Obama says there is a little improvement. I don’t see it at the small business level. My contacts at the big business level do not see it either.

2. Political – Referendum on the last 2 years will be dramatic according to all the polls. Could even be a washout for Democrats. I read a quote from a small business man that put it well. “Democrats are trying to put me out of business, I am going to put them out of business first”

3. Global – Many examples of other countries cutting back on big government after decades of going to a more socialized economy. Seems they learned their lesson. Then we have the new economic power China. They loan us money, yet we want to influence their monetary policy given our track record.

I am a fiscal conservative and social moderate, which means I fit in the political middle as does most of the US. However, I am uncomfortable with the extreme wings of both parties. To the extreme left, why won’t you learn the lesson, what do you see that I don’t? To the extreme right, why don’t you see the future of more global openness, which you have a chance of preparing for here in the US. What do you see that I don’t?

I do want to continue changing, “For the Better”. However, you don’t have to change, after all survival is not mandatory.

China, Business and Social Unrest

China seems like they are the only country still focused on business. Not very free, but they are trying to keep commerce going at any price to keep the social unrest down. We in the US, with current policy and have shut down business and now look at our social unrest.

Change is Coming

Democrats spend too much money, but Republicans got caught up in this as a response to keeping people happy with their entitlements. So now to compound issues we need to adjust, but in our hurry to get back to the middle we voted for change and got Obama, who is tracking way left. It looks like we will keep going the left meaning more regulations, more government control and ownership. This will take some investment opportunities away. The ones with more risk and therefore payback, that type of investment will go away. Sure hope the Mid Term elections next week, change this. We need the business.
